Auditory Disorders

Speech may be unclear. Comprehension of the spoken word may be difficult.


Referrals are indicated for:


  • Those with cochlear implants
  • Those with auditory processing disorders (CAPD)
  • Individuals with or without hearing aids whose primary means of communication is oral, not sign language.
  • Hearing aid users who need speech reading techniques
  • Heading aid users who need auditory training

Services:


Evaluation may include

  1. Medical history
  2. Oral examination
  3. Review of audiology reports
  4. Auditory discrimination testing

Audiological evaluation is NOT included. Please see a licensed audiologist. Hearing aids are neither sold nor serviced at FVSSC.

Recommendations are made based on the individual patient profile.

  1. Speech therapy / home program
  2. Audiological evaluation
  3. Medical evaluation / intervention
  4. Monitor specific patterns and functions such as health, breathing, sleeping

Therapy may include

  1. Articulation Therapy
  2. Language therapy
  3. Auditory training (better listening)
  4. Speech reading (using visual clues)
  5. Specific strategies to enhance communication
  6. Communication/coordination with other professionals, family/caregivers
