Referrals are indicated for:
- delays in acquiring appropriate language
- specific Language Impairment (SLI)
- aphasia, developmental or acquired (Example - 87KB)
- cognitive communication impairment
Adults
- may experience language difficulties as a result of a stroke, disease or brain injury
Children
- may have congenital impairment
- may suffer minimal brain injury at birth or due to illness
- may not have had sufficient opportunity or stimulation during "readiness" periods
- cannot focus and learn because of attention deficits / difficulty with auditory processing (sometimes called
CAPD – Central Auditory Processing Disorder)
